Artist Bio

I began my work with metal while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. Who knew that almost 10 years after that first Metals class at UT that I still today would be spending upwards of 8 hours a day in my studio making jewelry.

I finished school in 1998 after spending a year abroad in Australia and studying for a semester at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney where I not only furthered my love of metal, but also sparked my love for travel. I spent the next 5 years traveling to many different countries, absorbing the cultures and art, which greatly influence my aesthetic today.

In 2004, I decided to settle down a bit and focus on my jewelry. I finally felt that I was at a place where I could channel my voice through my creations and create a true body of work.

My current work is very much about the metal itself; it’s color, malleability and form. Many times I will not even sketch my ideas, but go straight to the metal and begin to build. The metal has a mind of it’s own sometimes. I work predominantly in sterling silver and use oxidation and a matte finish on my pieces to enhance the layers and details created through forming, hammering, riveting and soldering. Every aspect of the piece is taken into account from the smallest to the largest detail. Simple forms such as circles, ovals, triangles and squares repeat themselves within this body of work as they build upon each other and from each piece grows another. These forms may be simple, but they create a feel that is familiar yet unique and timeless.

I currently reside in Central East Austin where I enjoy a very supportive community of artists and friends.
